Artist Focus 006: Herra Hidro

Herra Hidro have been around longer than any other leicester band we can think of. Formed as three mates from school they’ve continued with the attitude that this is what they love doing, so why would the stop? Last year they released the brilliant ‘High Command’ EP through Robot Needs Home and continue to turn out some of the most exciting songs the city has to offer.

Artist Focus 005: Speaking In Italics

Headlining the Friday of this years White Noise are Speaking in Italics, who’s members have been front and centre of the city’s punk scene for a decade, evolving in to the furious four piece they are now. Delicately melodic but always with an incisive riff on hand to knock you off your feet.

Artist Focus 004: These Furrows

These Furrows have played Reading and Leeds, toured the UK with The Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Maybeshewill (Not simultaneously) and released some exceptional singles over the last three years. They’ve played almost every White Noise Festival with good reason. Their long, long awaited debut album is due to be released later this year.

Diet Pills and Mess Yourself Leave the Bill

It’s with heavy hearts that we have to inform you that both Diet Pills and Mess Yourself have had to pull out of this years event. Diet Pills have split up, which was a terrible piece of news to wake up to this morning, but we with them all individually the best for the future.

The re-organised line-up for Thursday will be announced very soon.

Artist Focus 003: By The Rivers

By The Rivers have totally taken the city by storm in their short but intense existence so far. Having supported The Specials on their UK arena tour last year they’ve played in front of thousands and are just starting to take on Europe. Their debut album is in the works, with a single due imminently.

The band play a special acoustic set to top of the final day of White Noise Festival.

Artist Focus 002: Codex Leicester

Codex Leicester’s Scott West and Kris Tearse’s former band Death of London formed White Noise Festival with their long time friends Maybeshewill five years ago, before they exploded in to their current incarnation, Codex Leicester. Comprised of veterans of the city’s music scene with an unrivalled pedigree, they’re named after Leonardo Da Vinci’s most famous writings. They released their EP ‘Mad Man’s Lullaby’ earlier this year on Function Records.

Artist Focus 001: Maybeshewill

Over the course of the next month we’re going to focus on some of the acts playing this years White Noise. We’re going to start with founding Curators Maybeshewill and work our way through some of the remaining line-up each week.

Maybeshewill are ostensibly an instrumental band, although their music is littered with vocals (of sorts). They’ve released three albums and countless singles and EPs and toured tirelessly over the last five years across the UK, Europe and Asia. Last year saw the release of their critically acclaimed third album ‘I Was Here For A Moment, Then I Was Gone’ and saw them play to sell-out crowds as far afield as London, Moscow, Berlin, Prague, Paris, Madrid and Rome.

Despite this success around the world, their focus is never far from their home city, as founding curators of White Noise Festival and the Robot Needs Home Collective, both of which aim to help build Leicester’s incredible music scene.
